One of Killer Mike’s many establishments was struck with stray bullets over the weekend. The windows of The SWAG Shop, the rapper’s barbershop in Atlanta, were pierced amid a shootout between two Black men in the city.
As 11 Alive reported, cops responding to calls of gunfire on Saturday (Feb. 20) discovered several businesses and vehicles were damaged during the shootout. As of now, no suspects have been taken into custody, and no deaths have been reported — something Killer Mike believes is a blessing.
“Please consider what would have happened if one of y’all actually hit one another. The jail, the lawyer fees, the funeral cost and two Black families loss,” the activist wrote to the shooters in a social media post.
“I’m glad y’all cud not hit the side of a barn with a shot gun cuz this am y’all all are alive.”
Though Killer Mike confirmed he was not targeted in the shootout, he announced the occurrence influenced his decision to postpone the intended day of the barbershop’s re-opening.
“I am sorry to my customers as this will continue pause the re launch of the OG SWAG Shop barber Shop & store,” the Run the Jewels rapper wrote. “Being a biz owner connected to the community, this one hurt as nobody else’s (meaning non Black) was affected and simply becuz of tempers and poor decisions, our biz is being stifled. As we planned on opening back up this month, we will now take a lil longer, but to College Park, Union City, City of South Fulton and the Red Oak Community we love and respect y’all, and will be back ASAP.”
The SWAG Shop has since been cleaned and boarded up. The Fulton County police are conducting an investigation into the shooting, and damages from the shootout will be repaired.
