Tucker Carlson is once again under fire for spreading conspiracy theories about the police killing of George Floyd. The Fox News host made the inflammatory comments on Wednesday (Feb. 10) while giving his thoughts on the Jan. 6 insurrection and Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial.
On his show, Carlson accused House impeachment managers of “flat-out lying” about the Capitol riot, which led to Trump’s impeachment. The “story” that managers are telling, he claimed, “deviate[s] in very important ways” from “the known facts.”
“And in many ways, the known facts bear no resemblance to the story they’re telling,” he asserted.
Carlson then attempted to connect the insurrection to Floyd’s death, which he described as a “carefully concocted myth” by “BLM and their sponsors in corporate America.”
“They changed this country more in the last five months than it has [changed] in the previous 50 years,” he said. “How’d they do that? They used the sad death of a man named George Floyd to upend our society. Months later, we learned that the story they told us about George Floyd’s death was an utter lie.”
Carlson then went on to falsely claim that “there was no physical evidence that George Floyd was murdered by a cop” and that “the autopsy report showed that George Floyd almost certainly died of a drug overdose.”
Both the Hennepin County medical examiner and an independent autopsy ruled Floyd’s death as a homicide. The Hennepin County medical examiner said the 46-year-old died from “cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint and neck compression.” The independent autopsy listed “asphyxia due to neck and back compression that led to a lack of blood flow to the brain” as the cause of his death.
Later on, the TV host alleged that the racial justice protests spurred by Floyd’s death “destroyed” cities and killed “scores of people.”
On Twitter, Carlson was slammed for promoting conspiracy theories and dragging Floyd’s name by baselessly connecting him to Trump supporters’ insurrection.
“Cannot overstate how important it is to get Tucker Carlson off the air,” one person said. “The damage he does to this country every night is immeasurable.”
“This is ‘Infowars’ shit,” another added. “Just a complete batshit conspiracy theory blasted into your meemaw’s face.”
