Back in October, Top Dawg Entertainment’s own REASON released his debut album New Beginnings, which boasts 14 tracks and some dope features from ScHoolboy Q, Rapsody, Ab-Soul, Vince Staples, JID, Isaiah Rashad, and more. Just before Christmas, the Carson emcee delivers a new visual from that project for “Westside,” which features Mereba and sees REASON telling an intricate love story over production from AC The Producer, Kal Banx, Nabeyin, and Fortune:
“Just think about it, you put everything in it hoping your soul will grow, all it lead to is blame games and “I told you so,” fuck on the same page, y’all in different books/
Four yеars in and it’s hard to let go, clubbin’ and parties, you drink away regrеt with Coke and Bacardi, sex ain’t even present, romantically starving, don’t treat you like you Ken, but he dealin’ with Barbies…/”
The video is directed by Moosa and starts with a love story between two people who work at the bank. As the plot unfolds, it becomes clear that, following an unsuccessful attempt at getting funding through legal means, REASON is in the process of going full-on Set It Off-style. Near the end, it’s revealed that the woman in the aforemention couple isn’t just a part of the scheme, she’s apparently in love with REASON as well. Unfortunately, Mereba doesn’t make an appearance in the clip.
“Westside” follows previously released visuals for “Flick It Up,” “Show Stop,” “Pop Shit,” “Field N***a,” “Sauce,” and “Favorite N***a,” among others. This year also saw REASON contributing to other tracks like Dreamville’s “Still Up,” “Revenge,” and “LamboTruck,” Courtney Bell’s “Garment,” and Deante’ Hitchcock’s “Weighing Me Down.”
