Verzuz and Apple Music are going all out for the Too Short and E-40 battle. The musical showdown is going down on Saturday (Dec. 19) and the Verzuz team and Apple Music reportedly invested a total of $500,000 to produce the show, according to sources involved in the production.

The West Coast legends’ battle will take place on a soundstage in North California and it will be the last show for the remainder of 2020, so it made sense that they would want to go out with a bang. TMZ is reporting that the half a million-dollar show will have concert-style lighting and some expensive props, including two classic old school cars that will be on stage behind each of the rappers.

Sources told TMZ that Apple, who is now streaming all of the Verzuz battles, is open to dedicating a big budget on producing the shows since the company “realizes how much of a cultural phenomenon the show is.” The outlet also reported that the Bay Area rappers were set to face each other at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Campus, but the performance had to be moved due to COVID safety concerns.

Verzuz has been promoting the battle all week long through its social media channels in anticipation of the showdown, including promotional videos featuring athletes like Marshawn Lynch and Damian Lillard.

The battle between the legendary rappers was announced soon after the cancelation of last week’s battle that was supposed to be between Ashanti and Keyshia Cole. The show had to be postponed until January after the “Foolish” singer tested positive for COVID-19. Too $hort said earlier this week that he was avoiding social gatherings ahead of the event and that he and his rival will be getting tested for the virus ahead of the show. The Verzuz battle will kick off tonight at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on Verzuz’s Instagram Live or on Apple Music.
