Fabolous believes that being a rapper has become the most dangerous job in this country.
On Thursday (Dec. 10), the “Can’t Let You Go” emcee took to his Instagram Story to share his thoughts after news surfaced that rapper Zoey Dollaz had been shot multiple times in Miami, Florida. “Respectfully… being a rapper has become the most dangerous job in America,” he wrote.
“Black men are surviving the trenches, constant battles in a war zone environment.. make something of themselves as artists, become famous, make millions of dollars, change their lifestyle.. and some how still end up dead or in jail,” he wrote in a follow-up post.
Zoey is reportedly in stable condition and Fab offered his prayers to him. The Brooklyn native is one of many rappers who have come forward in the last few days regarding the recent killings and arrests in hip hop.
Earlier this week, The Game warned up-and-coming emcees about the hip hop world and what could happen if they spent too much time outside. “10 rappers shot & killed this year alone & n*ggas wanna know my advice for up & coming artists,” the Documentary emcee tweeted on Monday (Dec. 7). “STAY THE FUCK IN THE HOUSE. #Fuck2020.”
In an Instagram Live conversation with Maino for REVOLT’s “The Fat Joe Show,” Fat Joe declared that rappers were in danger. “We seeing rappers getting murdered every day,” he said. “We’re seeing rappers go to jail for big shit. This ain’t little shit, Maino, right?”
Maino said it’s easy for emerging rappers to get drawn back into old habits. “When you working toward something, you’ve got a purpose,” he said. “You set these goals for yourself, you got somewhere to go with that. The problem is that we losing focus in what is important and what’s not. Like I said before, music was a way out. That’s a door to something different. The opportunities [are] endless. We don’t have to dodge street n*ggas. How? I don’t want to die there. That’s counterproductive.”
