2020, the year of the black queens in music — that sounds good, doesn’t it? With tons of music flooding the masses since the beginning of the year, it’s been a great pleasure to see women’s music across all genres dropping like sprinkled basil in the cooking pot. From infectious raps to melodic tunes and sultry vibes, no one in their right mind can’t question the brewing female star power these days. Today, rapper Yung Baby Tate unleashes her brand new EP titled After The Rain and like all of the other drops courtesy of black women in music this year, the word fire is an understatement.
The EP’s title is quite simple, yet riveting in a way. More times than not, there’s always a beautiful rainbow visible after a storm. Being among the most beautiful of nature’s displays, rainbows symbolize many positive things. It’s unique seeing the trying times we are currently facing and Baby Tate is simply showing us what’s there when the storm is over — audible pleasure. Yung Baby Tate’s After The Rain is a seven-track effort that she’s released through Issa Rae’s Raedio label with two musical contributions from 6lack and rising female rap star Flo Milli.
Signing with Issa Rae’s label earlier this year is definitely a pivotal point for Baby Tate’s promising career and from the looks of it, there’s no other way she can go but onward and upward. In the EP’s announcement trailer, the Atlanta artist had some words to share: “There comes a time in every girl’s life where she has to make a decision, make a sacrifice. Ask herself, ‘Is it gonna be you, or is it gonna be me? — I decide to choose me. I saw a sign, and I had to chase it.”
