Thursday (Nov. 19) will officially go down in history as the night Gucci Mane and Jeezy put their difference aside — for the most part — to partake in a Verzuz battle for the culture. Easily reaching over 1.5 million viewers within the first hour alone, it will also go down as one of not only the most exciting, but the highest watched Verzuz battles.

Taking place at Atlanta’s own Magic City strip club, the two Trap Music pioneers played some of their infamous tracks in their respective catalogues. Unfortunately, some songs that they’re known for also include diss tracks aimed at one another. When Gucci took the initiative to play “Truth,” things went left and made for the most awkward moment of the night.

As Gucci and Jeezy fans know, Guwop spits on the track, “Go dig your partner up, nigga, bet he can’t say shit.” This line is a reference to a Jeezy associate named Pookie Loc who Gucci fatally shot after Loc broke into his home and began assaulting him in 2005. The rapper would later turn himself in on murder charges, but have the charges dropped months later, as he claimed self defense.

When the beat for “Truth” stopped, however, Gucci kept going in with the jabs by talking about Loc being “under the dirt” and in a coffin. Guwop even went as far as saying that he was going to “smoke” on some Pookie Loc that night. At that point, Jeezy stopped him and said: “See when I called you and extended this invite, my nigga, I did it as a real man. It’s been 20 motherfucking years… you still talking the same shit.

“The shit we came from in the street, we been through it, dawg. Twenty years and when I said I wanted to do this for the culture, that’s what I wanted to do. I brought you here to show you the world care about what the fuck we got going on because we are the culture. Me and you, where we came from, what we been through, nigga, us.”

Needless to say, social media was in shock when Gucci really said those things about Loc to Jeezy’s face. La Flare did, however, say that there were no hard feelings toward Jeezy at the end of the night.
