People unveiled Michael. B Jordan as this year’s “Sexiest Man Alive” and Twitter is full of approval. The Black Panther star said of the honor, “It’s a cool feeling. You know, everybody always made that joke, like, ‘Mike, this is the one thing you’re probably not going to get.’ But, it’s a good club to be a part of.”
With the new title, Jordan joins the ranks of past recipients like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Chris Hemsworth and country singer Blake Shelton — who received some shade on Twitter Wednesday morning (Nov. 18) when users compared him to Jordan.
While social media is still buzzing with enthusiastic reactions, Jordan’s fans aren’t the only ones excited about his new recognition. Speaking with People, the 33-year-old confessed that the women in his family “are definitely proud of this one.”
“When my grandmother was alive, it was something that she collected, and then my mom naturally reads it a lot and my aunts as well,” he said. “This is one that they’re definitely going to have a special place for.”
Earlier this year, Jordan’s company, Outlier Society Productions, became the first to adopt an inclusion rider, which requires filmmakers to hire a diverse cast and crew. Jordan further sought to bolster Black talent by launching his #ChangeHollywood initiative, which laid out a roadmap for filmmakers to support Black entertainers and create anti-racist content.
“I think there’s a time and a place for everything,” he told People. “I’ve been picking my moments to make the most impact. We can all take action—big or small—to help create the change we want to see.”
Jordan will next star as a Navy SEAL-turned-CIA operative in the upcoming film Without Remorse. In the next decade, the multi-talent said he’d like to be “directing a little more, acting less [and] producing a lot more.”
“Just growing [into] whatever the next evolution of me is,” he added.
