From a musical standpoint, Jim Jones is no stranger to the current event happening in the country — earlier this year, he addressed the fight against systematic oppression on the track “The People.” Now, the Dipset general returns with another socially charged cut titled “Election,” which is produced by The Heatmakerz and sees Jones rapping about the current state of presidential affairs and how he’s standing tall through all of the chaos:
“Presi on us, we approaching the next election, Trump turned our country upside down, it’s just deception, if you’re not ready to hold your ground, then get protection, ‘cause these n***as might be ready to purge the next recession…/”
The visual comes courtesy of StreetHeat and shows an iced-out Jim Jones with his compadres, performing the track somewhere on the streets of New York City.
Back in 2019, Jim Jones liberated his seventh studio LP El Capo, a critically acclaimed effort that saw 16 tracks and additional appearances from Trav, Fat Joe, Rick Ross, Maino, Benny The Butcher, Conway The Machine, the late Fred The Godson, fellow Dipset member Cam’ron, and more. The year prior, he both released the album Wasted Talent and reunited with The Diplomats for their third body of work Diplomatic Ties.
During a recent sit-down with REVOLT TV’s “Drink Champs,” Jim Jones spoke on the difficulties of earning a Platinum plaque during hip hop’s golden era:
“It was at a different time when certain artists wasn’t going platinum… Some of the biggest artists that people look up to now in that moment, in the ’90s, in that Tunnel era wasn’t going platinum. You might’ve been hot, you might’ve been fly, but you wasn’t going platinum. Mase was going platinum, N.O.R.E. was going platinum, Cam was going platinum, DMX was going platinum. That’s about it from New York.”
