Eminem has lended his trademark single to the Joe Biden campaign. On Monday (Nov. 2), just one day before Election Day, the Detroit native’s “Lose Yourself” was featured in Biden’s latest ad. Titled “One Opportunity,” the 45-second clip shows Americans hitting the polls with the word “VOTE” highlighting screen, while Em’s urgent 2002 hit plays in the background.
“We have one shot. One opportunity. One moment,” Biden wrote of the ad. “Don’t miss the chance — vote.”
Eminem hasn’t been shy about his distaste for presidential incumbent Donald Trump and appeared to endorse Biden on Twitter Monday afternoon. In the tweet, the rapper shared Biden’s new ad and wrote, “One opportunity… #Vote.”
The appearance of “Lose Yourself” in Biden’s “One Opportunity” video is especially noteworthy because up until now, Eminem has never licensed his music for political use. The rapper is famously strict when it comes to licensing and has opted to limit the use of his music in film, TV and ads alike. In 2017, the Detroit Free Press notes, Em successfully sued a political party in New Zealand that used a knockoff version of “Lose Yourself” in their TV ad.
The move also arrives after some rappers have shown support for Donald Trump ahead of the election. Most recently, Lil Pump was reportedly seen at a pro-Trump rally and Lil Wayne met with the president to discuss his Platinum Plan.
After posing for a picture with the rapper and gaining his endorsement for reelection, Trump revealed that it was Wayne who had requested the meeting.
“He’s a really nice guy,” the president told reporters afterward. “He’s really an activist in a very positive way. And he asked for a meeting and we had the meeting and as you saw the meeting went very well.”
