T.I. is calling for a boycott of a popular Atlanta sushi restaurant after a Black couple says they were racially discriminated against because of their shoes.

Kaylan Colbert and her husband went to Umi Sushi to have a low-key birthday celebration. The couple made reservations, but once they arrived to the restaurant, the staff asked them to leave because Mr. Colbert had on sneakers — which is allegedly against the restaurant’s dress code. The couple said they were going to leave and respect the rule, but they noticed a white woman wearing Adidas sneakers being serviced at the bar.

“I had been there multiple times. The COVID situation — we had probably been about four times and spent plenty of money there in the past, so this is supposed to be like a high-end restaurant,” Kaylan said in an interview with FOX 5 Atlanta.

“As we were walking out though, my husband noticed a woman at the bar had on tennis shoes and that’s when everything had gone out the window at that point because there are no rules here for some people, only for others,” she continued.

T.I. is now threatening to “shut Umi Sushi down” like they did a local Houston’s restaurant back in 2017. “I‘ve been made aware of some injustices that require our immediate attention,” the Paper Trail emcee captioned the post. “We comin… #YouViolateWeDemonstrate.”

Farshid Arshid, the owner of Umi Sushi, also spoke to FOX 5 Atlanta about the incident and said that it was an “operational mistake” on their end.

“This was completely, 100%, an operational mistake on our end,” he said. “When they got upset, we should have investigated that.” The owner also said they will handle things differently in the future.

Arshid said he contacted the Colberts to work things out, but they don’t plan on returning to the restaurant.
