We all know the classic record “Let Me Love You” that helped shape our middle school and high school years along with the other countless R&B classic jams. Timeless cuts like “Just A Friend 2002,” “How Could You” and more intact, prolific R&B sensation Mario has been a household name and an inspiration to many R&B singers over the years. Cementing his legacy for nearly 20 years now since the release of his debut album Mario, the Baltimore singer-songwriter has contributed to some of the most memorable eras in a lot of our lives. Today, he drops off his seventh project Closer To Mars and it’s as solid as solid can be.
Mario started the year with his sultry single “Closer.” The singer has since revealed that the song was only the beginning as he’s been prepping this Closer To Mars release. The stand-out record finds Mario wanting to take his woman out of this world. The track, produced by Ronnie Jackson, crafts a sensual groove with soft strains of guitar, spacey synths and drums with just the right amount of knock to keep things interesting. He does the rest as he offers a new adventure. “Let’s take this trip / We don’t need no rocket ship, On the way to Mars,” he sings on the chorus. “I’ll give you air / This gon’ take your breath away / On the way to Mars.”
Earlier this year, the singer spoke on his aspirations outside of music and what he stated is pretty dope:
I can’t wait until people really get a chance to really know me outside of what they know, because I create across the board—I’m a writer, I’m an actor, I’m a singer, I’m a performer, but I’m just a creative. And it’s something that I’ve really been investing in, my time, so I’m looking forward to sharing this. Y’all going to see movies one day, whether it be Netflix or other platforms that make sense for it.
As we wait to see Mario live out his other dreams, peep his latest EP below and spread the word!
