As a treat for his listeners, Russ dropped off a brand new surprise track titled “Paid Off.” Following suit with a majority of his releases, this one is produced by him as well. On the new song, Russ talks about the package deal that comes with having money:
“I need a driver with a suit, just to drop me off, I need a full-time freak, just to top me off. I need a couple million dollars every month, at least. I know we just got in a fight, can we f*ck at least? I got a girl, the whole world would love to jump out with. People followed us home, I pulled the gun out quick.”
In honor of his birthday last month, Russ gifted fans with a visually stunning music video for his new single “Take You Back” featuring Kehlani. His project Shake The Snow Globe was released back in January and earned him a top five spot on the Billboard 200 with 63,000 album equivalent units sold, and he followed up with its deluxe version later on. Prior to that, he dropped Zoo, which was led by the well-received singles “The Flute Song” and “Missin You Crazy.”
In his episode of REVOLT’s Drink Champs, Russ spoke about what drives his work ethic:
“I need to feel like my jump-shot just improved, every month. The money, I know, is ancillary. That’s cool, whatever. I understand that hustle, too. But, then it’s like, I’ll never stop because I’m never content with the level I’m at. I always think my overall [rating] can go up. If I get to a 91 overall, I’ll be like, ‘Yeah, but if I go hard in the studio, I’ll be a hundred.’ That’s what keeps me going.”
