Dej Loaf has linked with Dave East and Nicole Bus for the new single “Star,” which has landed on the Jamal Hill-directed True To The Game 2 soundtrack. The film is set to premiere later this year, and is a sequel to 2017’s True To The Game. For her verse, Dej Loaf delivers bars about being unavoidable:
“My mother told me stop fuckin’ with you but that’s how life do. Now your favorite rappers f**k with me n***a, and as long as you listen to rap, you stuck with me n***a. A hundred thousand worth of jewelry on my comfortably n***a. Because of you, I ain’t never showin’ love to these n***as.”
Prior to “Star,” the first single from the soundtrack was Tamar Braxton’s “Crazy Kind Of Love.” The compilation features other stars like Burna Boy, Jeremiah, OT Genasis, Derez De’Shon, Freeway, Wheezy Beatz, and London on Da Track. The first soundtrack boasted appearances from 21 Savage, Young Scooter, Keyshia Cole, and many more.
Earlier this year in May, Dej Loaf EP titled No Saint, which contained four new tracks including the opener of the same name and production from Derrick Shorter, Buddah Bless, Zaytoven, and Jason Vaughan. No Saint followed immediately after her previous four-track EP It’s A Set Up!. Prior to that, she released the single “Bubbly” in February, which was said to be taken from the forthcoming sequel to 2014’s Sell Sole.
As for Dave East, the NY rapper released his Karma 3 project in August. In his recent Drink Champs episode, Dave East reflected on his desire to make classic bodies of work:
“I just pulled up knocking Life After [Death], that’s what I drove over here listening to. So, I miss that, skits and all that. They don’t do that anymore, all of that is like a lost art. I like to put something on where it feels like you watching a movie. Where if you sit back, roll your weed up or you’re ready to get on the road… It’s a few artists that still do that. YG do that, he’ll bring you to his world. Kendrick do that, he’ll bring you to his.”
