Taraji P. Henson has long been an advocate for mental health, and she is continuing to bring awareness to those issues.
In her most recent effort, the actress will be launching a talk show on Facebook Watch about mental wellness.
Alongside her best friend Tracie Jade Jenkins, the two will discuss various mental health issues and their effects on the Black community on a series tentatively titled “Peace of Mind with Taraji.” They will also help provide support to those affected and hopefully assist in breaking down the stigmas associated with mental illness.
“The work Taraji has done in the mental health space is inspiring, and we’re thrilled to have her come to our platform to educate and entertain around this incredibly important topic,” said Mina Lefevre, head of development & programing for Facebook Watch. “One of our strengths at Facebook Watch is building community and conversation around topics people care about, and we’re looking forward to taking this journey together.”
Henson also shared her excitement about her forthcoming show.
“I’ve long been a mental health advocate for the Black community and created the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation in 2018 that has provided resources to thousands of people who are struggling,” she said. “I’m looking forward to bringing this new talk series to Facebook Watch where I can continue to create conversation around an issue that is near and dear to my heart.”
The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, led by Executive Director Jenkins, is named in remembrance of the actress’ father who returned from the Vietnam War with mental health issues.
Earlier this year, the organization launched the COVID-19 Free Virtual Therapy Support Campaign to help fund mental health services for those experiencing pandemic-related stress or anxiety.
They also partnered with the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation and started the Matching Gift campaign to give frontline workers free access to mental health services.
