Drake’s verse on “Mr. Right Now” — a new song from 21 Savage and Metro Boomin — had fans buzzing over the weekend. On the track, which arrived on 21 and Metro’s long-awaited Savage Mode II — the Toronto rap star alluded to a past relationship with Top Dawg Entertainment songstress, SZA.

“Yeah, said she wanna fu*k to some SZA, wait/ ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ‘08,” Drizzy rhymes on the song.

As fans pieced together Drake’s suggestion at a past romance, some noted that in 2008 SZA would have been 17 years old. On Sunday night (Oct. 4), the “All The Stars” singer hopped on Twitter to clarify that while she and Drake did in fact date, it was actually one year later.

“So It was actually 2009 lol .. in this case a year of poetic rap license mattered lol I think he jus innocently rhymed 08 w wait,” she wrote. “Anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm.. it’s all love all peace.”

“I just didn’t want anybody thinking anything underage or creepy was happening,” she added in another tweet. “Completely innocent. Lifetimes ago.”

Drake’s was one of three guest verses on 21 Savage and Metro’s Savage Mode II, along with appearances by Young Thug and Young Nudy. The 15-track project was fronted by a cinematic trailer that featured Morgan Freeman as narrator. So far, it’s expected to sell between 170,000 and 195,000 equivalent album units during its debut week — reportedly over a 1,000 percent increase in sales from the duo’s first joint effort.

Fans are also waiting on an album from Drake, who previously teased that his sixth studio offering would arrive this summer. Though he’s dropped steady hints about the album’s progress, he has yet to put an official release date on the highly anticipated LP.

SZA, on the other hand, dropped off her latest collaboration — “Hit Different” with The Neptunes and Ty Dolla $ign — last month. She released her most recent album, Ctrl, in 2017. See her tweets about Drake’s verse below.
