It’s not everyday we get some new music from Smoke DZA, but when we do, it’s worth it 100%. The Kush God himself has been an important factor in the underground realm for years now (like artists such as Curren$y, Dom Kennedy, Big K.R.I.T. etc) and his presence is always felt on wax. With today being jam packed with a number of music releases, Smoke DZA’s eighth studio album Homegrown is most certainly one that stands out.
If you aren’t familiar with the Harlem rapper by now, you might as well get accustomed now — it’s never too late to join the party.
Everyone knows the key to keep catch people’s ear when presenting a new body of work to them is to have an attention grabbing intro. With this being said, The Kush God made sure he made this move as he secured features from Dipset on his intro. He took to Twitter to announce his excitement stating: “Impatiently waiting for Friday.. so excited about this release.. i really got Dipset on the intro to my album (emojis) as a born an raised nigga from Harlem that’s as dope as it gets.. #HomeGrown”
Speaking of features, DZA grabbed some additional stellar features to make this project even harder: Big K.R.I.T., Jadakiss, Flipp Dinero, Jack Harlow, Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, Dom Kennedy, Eric Bellinger and more!
In a recent chat with Forbes, Smoke DZA discussed how he built his personal brand around weed:
It goes back to what I said about music, that I’m going to do it regardless if I get paid or not, because I love it. With marijuana, I would smoke weed whether I did or didn’t do music. I got in at a very special time in music, with the “weed rap era.” — I’ve been tapped in with Berner, with a lot of them in the weed culture before it was culturally popular. It didn’t really take any skin off my back to making that a part of—I don’t want to say gimmick—my lifestyle as far as that I’m promoting it.
