Atlanta is home to many greats — including producers. Insert London on da Track, the genius behind some of your favorite songs to date. From the nostalgia that ensues from records like Rich Gang’s “Lifestyle,” Young Thug’s “Check,” T.I.’s “About The Money,” Tyga’s “Hookah,” and Kodak Black’s “Roll In Peace” to the more recent hits such as French Montana’s “No Stylist,” Saweetie’s “My Type,” and of course all things Summer Walker, the 29-year-old is a walking definition of somebody who works hard and does whatever is needed to perfect his craft.
Boasting 2.6 million followers on Instagram alone, London lives by the mantra: “When shit don’t pop overnight, remember it takes 24 hours to build a Toyota and six months to build a Rolls Royce.”
In honor of the producing titan being featured in REVOLT Summit x AT&T’s “Stay Close To Your Craft” discussion on Saturday (Oct. 3), we put together a list of seven facts that you may not know about the hitmaker. Peep below.
1. London started as his own artist before shifting to beatmaking.
It all started when a 16-year-old London entered the rap game by joining a hip hop crew titled Dem Guyz back home in Atlanta. Getting his experience writing and playing piano in the church, he soon began to create his own beats that he’d rap over. Suddenly, the city caught wind of his production and he hasn’t looked back since. He even went to Full Sail University to further his knowledge with various software and programs.
2. Working with The Chainsmokers allowed him to expand to all genres.
While London has created a name for himself working with the elites of hip hop, he’s always had the intention of stepping outside the box and touching all genres. His big break arrived by working with The Chainsmokers, which pushed him into the mainstream light and brought his R&B and rap background into the pop electronic music scene. Since then, he’s worked with everyone from Noah Cyrus to NAV.
3. He executive produced Summer Walker’s Over It album.
If you love R&B in the slightest, you probably have streamed Summer Walker’s Over It album millions of times. Beyond personally working on standout records like “I’ll Kill You” featuring Jhene Aiko and “Body,” he put on his executive producer hat by working closely with the R&B star and pushing her to be great. While the two also had a romantic relationship, there’s no doubt he played a major role in the masterpiece that Over It became.
4. London isn’t just a producer, he’s a songwriter too.
There’s a huge difference between a producer and a beatmaker, but London can do it all. In addition to providing some of the hardest beats in the game, he endlessly contributes on the writing tip. In fact, he and Young Thug wrote “Lifestyle” in the kitchen.
5. His name London has nothing to do with the city in England.
With a name like London On Da Track, it’s easy for people to assume he hails from the city. The Atlanta native makes it be known this is not the case because London is actually his birth name. The reasoning actually stems from his mother who used to model back in the day. Timing-wise, she was supposed to go to London for a fashion show. Hence, she named her son London.
6. London has multiple producer tags — two from Young Thug and Kodak Black.
Given the fact that London and Young Thug’s chemistry is unmatched with whipping up records like “Digits,” “Check” and “Power,” it’s only right for Thug to lend his vocals. When you hear, “We got London on da Track!” you automatically know it’s a banger. When you hear the tag, “I’m in London got my beat from London,” that’s Kodak Black’s voice. He also has a tag from his good from Skooly from the early days in Atlanta.
7. He cashed out with a beautiful crib in Encino, California.
When you have so many hits under your belt that you can’t even count, you deserve a mansion. With his unwavering work ethic and passion, London purchased his new home in Encino, California, right outside Los Angeles. The price? $2.6 million. The 4,500 square foot crib comes with five bedrooms, a master suite with two walk-in closets, an outdoor kitchen, a pool and spa, and much more. There’s also a motor court and two-car garage for his vehicles.
