21 Savage opened up about the time he visited JAY-Z to thank him for his help after he was released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody early last year.
During an interview with Big Bank and DJ Scream on “Big Facts,” the Issa Album emcee said he tried to pay Jigga back for helping him get released from ICE, but the mogul declined his offer.
“When I got out, I pulled up on JAY-Z at his house and shit,” he said. “Him and Beyoncé was in there. And we was kicking it. He a regular nigga. I just was thanking him. When I first got out, I texted him like, ‘Imma pay you back.’ He was like, ‘I don’t want your money, pay me back by being great.’ So, I pulled up on him, chopped it up thanked him and shit, cause he ain’t have to do that.”
When 21 was detained by ICE, JAY hired an attorney to help get him out. “The arrest and detention of 21 Savage is an absolute travesty, his U visa petition has been pending for 4 years,” the 4:44 rapper wrote in a statement last year. “In addition to being a successful recording artist, 21 deserves to be reunited with his children immediately, #Free21Savage.”
Although, 21 is no longer in ICE custody, his legal team is still dealing with the immigration case.
“No, [the case isn’t over] but the lawyers are dealing with it,” he said. “I don’t think they’re gonna [deport me], but if they do, shit, my money coming with me, for sure. I’ll be alright, for sure. The money go wherever you go. They got rich people over there. Imma be one of them.”
During his immigration ordeal, 21 said he appreciated the love people showed him, but he also paid attention to the people who didn’t support him.
“When I got out, I really started to see like all the love and I was like, ‘Damn that’s crazy,’” he continued. “And I noticed all the fake love too — all the niggas who didn’t show love. So, if you wondering why I been stiff on you since I got out, it’s cause you a bitch and you did not say, ‘Free me.’”
