As a surprise gift to his fans for his own birthday, J.I. (more commonly known as J.I. The Prince of N.Y.) dropped off a brand new music video for his track “20K.” In the new visual is directed by frequent collaborator KidArt.

“20k” appears on his label debut EP Welcome To GStarr Vol. 1, released this past July via G*Starr Ent./Geffen Records and includes features from Myke Towers and Lil Durk. Prior to the new video, he shared the visual for In the song “Love In The Club” from the same EP as well. In “20K,” J.I. raps about staying in his own lane:

Never felt so much neglection. We walk around my hood like I don’t never need protection. Stood inside my lane, y’all tried to fuck up my direction. Broke too many mirrors tryna fuck up my reflection.

Around this time last year, he shared his EP Hood Life Krisis Vol. 1 which includes his summer breakout single “Need Me.” The 7-track featureless project catapulted the young star onto the radars of many, allowing him to ink a deal with Interscope Records.

In an interview back in April, J.I. spoke about his Puerto Rican roots and what it means for him to be able to represent his people:

“For what I’m doing, it’s genuine and authentic. I don’t have a gimmick going on. What sells is my music, it’s not my character. I don’t go on social media and bug out. I let my music speak for itself. So when it comes to my people, I just try to incorporate my heritage. I definitely plan on crossing over and getting into Spanish music. That’s a different market — a huge market. I definitely gotta embrace that.”
