Currently, Baby Keem is seeing some increased exposure thanks to his recent induction into this year’s XXL Freshman list. Today, the Carson, CA to Las Vegas, NV rapper looks to keep that momentum going with two new tracks, “hooligan” and “sons & critics freestyle,” the latter of which seems to continue the artistic style shown on last year’s “ORANGE SODA” and “FRANCE FREESTYLE.” “hooligan” also sees a fairly dark visual courtesy of Jake Schreier, which matches Keem’s rockstar life bars perfectly:
“I get the top while I skeet off, swervin’ through lanes, I am limitless, for the ones down, I say, “Free y’all,” I start to question what freedom is/
My unc’ put the Chevy on fours, I drip in all black like an emo bitch, but these are not regular clothes, these are the outfits I make a movie in…/
In addition to his solo work, Baby Keem has contributed to releases from his reported cousin Kendrick Lamar and Lamar’s Top Dawg Entertainment family, earning credits on Black Panther: The Album, Jay Rock’s Redemption, Schoolboy Q’s CrasH Talk, and The Lion King: The Gift. Speaking to Crack, he gave his take on how the TDE connection began:
“I sent a pack of beats to the TDE email, and it just so happened that I ended up on the soundtrack. God’s blessing.”
Previously known by his real name, Keem began truly making waves of his own with The Sound of a Bad Habit and last year’s Die for My Bitch, both released under The Orchard/Sony Music. Currently, his music is being pushed through Lamar and Dave Free’s still-cryptic pgLang imprint — Keem even appeared in that company’s promotional video earlier this year.
Press play on “hooligan” and “sons & critics freestyle” below. Fans can probably keep an eye out for more from Baby Keem soon.
