Trippie Redd has been teasing his collaboration with Busta Rhymes for weeks, and it was well worth the wait. The new single, “I Got You” not only includes a guest feature from Busta, but also also draws from the legendary rapper’s catalog in two ways.
The hook of the Wheezy-produced song is an interpolation of Busta’s classic hit with Mariah Carey “I Know What You Want.” The 2002 song peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and remains as one of Busta’s most well-known songs today.
Trippie alters the words slightly to fit the new track’s title and sings:
“Baby, if you give it to me, I’ll give it to you, you know that I got you (If you give it to me). Shawty, if you give it to me, I’ll give it to you, you know that I got you.”
Busta is known for his unforgettable and trailblazing music videos he paired with his hits, ensuring this new 2020 song should be no exception. The story line driven “I Got You” video even references Busta Rhymes’ “I Know What You Want” video with a skit in the beginning taking place in the backseat of a car.
The students sport varsity jackets in Trippie Redd’s new video with “Pegasus” written across the back, which is the title of Redd’s upcoming project. He promoted the new album as a 2020 release, but the status of its arrival is still unknown.
