This month, Amazon Prime will unveil their new documentary titled All In: The Fight For Democracy. Directed by Liz Garbus and Lisa Cortés, the film aims to take a look at “the history, and current activism against voter suppression; barriers to voting that most people don’t even know is a threat to their basic rights as citizens of the United States.” To precede that release, fans get to check out a new single from Janelle Monáe titled “Turntables,” which is produced by Nate “Rocket” Wonder and sees Monáe singing about the fight against oppression:

“It’s a boomerang booming back, yeah, you laid the egg now it’s ‘bout to hatch, yeah, you gaslight, ‘bout to meet your match, you f*** up the kitchen, then you should do the dishes/

“Turntables” marks Janelle Monáe’s first official release since last year’s “That’s Enough,” which appeared on the soundtrack of the live-active re-release of Lady and the Tramp. Her last studio LP, Dirty Computer, made landfall in 2018 and earned Monáe a top ten placement on the Billboard 200 thanks to 54,000 album equivalent units sold.

In addition to her musical contributions to Hollywood, Monáe continues to show her acting chops in that realm. This year, she will star in the two films The Glorias and Antebellum, both of which — as with the aforementioned documentary — will see full-scale premieres before the end of September. She also has a starring role in the web television series “Homecoming,” and provides narrating duties Vox series “Sex, Explained.”
