On Friday (Aug. 28), REVOLT and NAN (National Action Network), along with NAN’s founder, Rev. Al Sharpton, will join forces to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington by airing “Commitment March 2020: Get Your Knee Off Our Necks,” which will be live-streamed from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. beginning at 11 a.m. ET/ 8 a.m. PT on REVOLT’s Youtube, website and TV channel.
The two-hour event will be hosted by TV personality Rodney Rikai. It will include a slew of appearances from the likes of Civil Rights Attorney Benjamin Crump, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Pastor Jamal Bryant, Marc Morial, Joy Reid, Yolanda Renee King, Martin Luther King, III; and many more, who will deliver moving speeches that you won’t want to miss.
Fifty seven years ago, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his legendary “I Have A Dream Speech” on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and changed the trajectory of American history — and the world. Almost six decades later and we’re still fighting for a lot of the same freedoms today.
We continue to fight for social justice, as witnessed by the nonstop recent protests after the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks, Elijah McClain; as well as the protests from years back demanding justice for Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Sandra Bland, Eric Garner and a plethora of others — not to mention the deplorable shooting of Jacob Blake, who was shot seven times in his back and in front of his kids by a Kenosha, Wisconsin cop earlier this week — America still has a lot of work to do when it comes to treating Black and brown people fairly. And we, the people, are steadfast in our quest to make sure that we obtain the basic human rights that we deserve.
Let the “Commitment March 2020: Get Your Knee Off Our Necks” inspire you to continue the fight. On Friday, watch from 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT to 1 p.m. ET 10 a.m. PT on REVOLT. The revolution will, indeed, be televised.
