On May 6, Dreasjon Reed was fatally shot by an IMPD officer. Now, the late victim’s family has finally received the autopsy results.

Three months ago, police officers pursued Reed after seeing that someone was driving recklessly on an interstate. Supervisors ordered that authorities stop the vehicle, which was going nearly 90 mph. After spotting the car on a city street, the 21-year-old and the deputy reportedly exchanged gunfire, which resulted in the death of the former.

After receiving the autopsy results, Reed’s mother Demetree Wynn held a press conference addressing the situation at hand. “You can’t do what you did to my son and tell me it was right,” Wynn said. “I’ve been a nurse for 20 years and I’m not stupid. Don’t insult my intelligence by assuming I don’t know how to read. I know what it says. And if it was your child, I promise you, you couldn’t stand here.”

She continued, “I can’t breathe, my heart hurts. But I’m still standing here and there ain’t no way in hell you can do that to somebody else’s kid and be okay with it. If you’re okay with it, let me do it to your son and I’m gonna show you how it feels. I promise you that.”

In the wake of the ongoing protests in America, this isn’t the first time that there has been an issue regarding autopsy reports. After George Floyd died at the hands of several officers, his family conducted a separate examination to shed light on the truth.

“Sustained pressure on the right side of Mr. Floyd’s carotid artery impeded blood flow to the brain, and weight on his back impeded his ability to breathe,” Ben Crump, the family’s attorney, revealed. “The independent examiners found that weight on the back, handcuffs and positioning were contributory factors because they impaired the ability of Mr. Floyd’s diaphragm to function.”
