Now free from her deal with RCA Records, Tinashe has been both giving her fans plenty of dope music to enjoy and providing assistance to her peers. Last year, she dropped her first independent release Songs For You, which saw 15 tracks and appearances from MAKJ, Ms Banks, 6LACK, and G-Eazy. In the past several months, she’s also appeared on singles by THEY., ZHU, Kaytranada, Yellow Claw, and more. Now, the Kentucky-to-Cali songstress is back with a new, bouncy track titled “Rascal (Superstar),” which sees production from HBK alum Sage The Gemini and centers around Tinashe’s wild and crazy lifestyle:
“All my bitches look like money in the bank, when they see us, they got nothing left to say/
Out the bottle, sippin’ on some Dom Pérignon, I look forward to the s*** you’ll never know/
I’m a superstar, b***, I just pour the cup, b***h, fly out in the morning, I’ma be exhausted/
You could see it when I’m breathing, I’m a cold b***h, can’t believe it, you could see it when I’m breathing, I’m so coldish, just can’t believe it…/”
The visual comes courtesy of Jasper Soloff and sees Tinashe and her camera drone waking up and walking/dancing in various parts of her animated residence, trying on different outfits, seductively dressing her cake, and more. The clip is also said to represent her alter ego NASHE, which was first birthed from Tinashe’s shelved album of the same name.
Speaking to Uproxx, Tinashe spoke on how she’s been faring during the quarantine:
“Oh gosh. Staying busy is the challenge, right? I’m just trying to be creative, focus on my mental health, trying to take it day-by-day. I’m doing a lot of painting, writing, eating, trying to be creative, and to continue making things and stay inspired.”
