Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook has revealed that he has tested positive for COVID-19. The star player released a statement on social media on Monday (July 13).

“I tested positive for COVID-19 prior to my team’s departure to Orlando,” he said. “I’m currently feeling well, quarantined and looking forward to rejoining my teammates when I am cleared. Thank you all for the well wishes and continued support. Please take the virus seriously. Be safe. Mask up. #Whynot.”

Westbrook, along with his teammates James Harden and Luc Mbah a Moute, did not travel with the rest of the team to Orlando, Florida. On Sunday (July 12), coach Mike D’Antoni said that he hoped the players would be joining the rest of the team at the NBA bubble in Disney World in a few days. He declined to specify the exact reason why they didn’t travel with the rest of the team.

“These are things that people are dealing with,” D’Antoni said. “We’re not going to get into why not. They’re on their way.”

D’Antoni also said that the three players were working out “at their home bases” and their delays would not have a big impact on the team. Once Westbrook arrives in Orlando, he will have to undergo the same 48-hour quarantine as the other players. After that, he will be able to participate in the normal basketball activities such as practicing.

Other players such as Spencer Dinwiddie, Rudy Gobert, Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell have previously contracted Coronavirus. Some of those players have even opted out of returning for the rest of the season, which is scheduled to resume on July 30.

Once the NBA resumes, the Rockets will take the court on July 31 against the Dallas Mavericks. The REVOLT team would like to wish Westbrook a speedy recovery. Check out his statement below.
