On Thursday (June 5), JAY-Z shared a playlist titled “Songs For Your Survival 2” on TIDAL.
The exclusive-collection featured tracks from several artists including Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, Jay Electronica and more. The playlist serves as the second installment to the Brooklyn rapper’s initial “Songs For Your Survival” playlist, which he dropped back in 2016.
Throughout his career, hip-hop’s first billionaire has shown that he is one for the people. Last week, JAY lent his private jet to Ahmaud Arbery’s family attorney Lee Merritt to make sure that he was able to attend his scheduled court hearing.
In a post to Instagram, Merritt thanked the “4:44” rhymer for helping him out. “When you absolutely have to be in Court to stand with your client and righteous protesters for justice … JAY-Z sends his private jet. That’s part of the P.P.E plan to get us out of this Crisis (People Power Political Power Economic Power) #PPE @rocnation @grassrootslaw @shaunking @leemerrittesq #thepeopleslawyer @blerimelmazi #runwithmaud #itsonus,” he wrote.
Following the death of George Floyd, Hov released a statement, explaining that he was “determined to fight for justice” after speaking with Governor Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison.
“After our very earnest conversation, thank you to Governor Walz for doing what’s right and calling in Attorney General Keith Ellison to take over the George Floyd case,” he wrote. “Earlier today, Governor Walz mentioned having a human conversation with me — a dad and a black man in pain. Yes, I am human, a father and a black man in pain and I am not the only one.”
He added, “I am more determined to fight for justice than any fight my would-be oppressors may have. I prevail on every politician, prosecutor and officer in the country to have the courage to do what is right. Have the courage to look at us as humans, dads, brothers, sisters and mothers in pain and look at yourselves.”
