Nicki Minaj is looking to grant her fans’ request.
On Friday (June 5), the New York rapper joined DJ Boof’s Instagram Live session and revealed in the comments section that she will contact Kanye West about their unreleased track “New Body.” The song was recorded in support of West’s Yandhi album, which never saw the light of day. Over the last few weeks, the unofficial single has gained a lot of traction on social media, causing Minaj to re-evaluate the situation.
“Ok let me hit ‘Ye about ‘New Body’ I see y’all asking,” Minaj wrote. “The [fact] that we shot a whole music video to this song.”
Minaj’s announcement came after she spoke out about George Floyd’s police brutality-related death last month in Minneapolis. In a lengthy post to Instagram, the “Megatron” spitter urged her fans to sign a petition that calls for justice.
“When 4 black THUGS commit a crime, if 1 person commits murder, they ALL get charged & CONVICTED,” she wrote prior to the charges that were filed against the three other officers involved. “When white THUGS/COPS KILL innocent black people, ALL 4 of them are responsible‼️‼️‼️ They all watched an unarmed man die and did nothing‼️ Why do they have different rules?????”
She continued, “Let your voice be heard. Be angry. White people have been using violence against us since the beginning of time. We didn’t invent violence & looting. Will these officers actually get convicted? Probably not. Let your voice be heard. Call & TEXT to be a part of these petitions. May Mr. Floyd Rest In Peace.”
In addition to Minaj, celebrities like Killer Mike, Dr. Dre, Tory Lanez, Cardi B and more have used their platform to bring awareness to injustices in today’s world. Take a look at Nicki Minaj posting about “New Body” below.
