Big news for hip hop fans today — Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist have announced a new collaborative project titled Alfredo, and it’s dropping at midnight (May 29). Added to that, they’ve also liberated a new video for a cut from the album titled “1985,” which sees Freddie blacking out over Al’s nostalgic guilar-laced production:
“Quarter thang to a whole thang, whole gang workin’, hit a bitch with that extended clip or that revolver, s***’ll serve the same purpose/
Keep them beamin’ up to Scotty in my crack lobby I can smell the ‘caine burnin’, Michael Jordan, 1985, b***h, I travel with the cocaine circus/
Put them F and Xs on your clowned ass, catch a n***a up and leave him down bad/
I go get a pack and take a n***a town, and f*** his b***hes with my out of town ass…/”
The video keeps things simple, with the new hip hop veterans meeting in the middle of the desert for the apparent purpose of dumping a body Gibbs off’ed using “dip.” If this release is any indication of where this body of work is going, fans should be in for a treat, to say the least.
Alfredo isn’t the first time Freddie Gibbs and Alchemist came together for a project, either. Alongside Curren$y, they created magic with the nine-track Fetti back in 2018. More recently, Freddie Gibbs cooked up Bandana, his second collaboration with Madlib, last summer. The incredibly prolific Alchemist teamed up with Conway The Machine for LULU this past March, and has crafted still fresh cuts for the likes of Westside Gunn and Jay Electronica for their respective albums Pray For Paris and A Written Testimony.
