Four Minneapolis cops were fired Tuesday (May 26) following the investigation of the death of George Floyd. Minneapolis Mayor, Jacob Frey, announced the termination of the officers on Twitter. “This is the right call,” he tweeted.

According to The Washington Post, the incident began when police officers arrived at the 3700 block of Chicago Avenue South on Monday (May 25) night. They were responding to a 911 call that accused Floyd of trying to forge a check in a local grocery store. When the cops arrived, Floyd was in his car and they ordered him to step out of the vehicle.

Allegedly, Floyd physically resisted officers and they placed him in handcuffs and pinned him to the ground. Video of the tragic incident went viral. Floyd can be seen on video repeatedly telling the officers, “I can’t breathe!” as one officer pinned him down by the neck with his knee. He eventually becomes unresponsive, but the officer continued to keep his knee on his neck until an ambulance arrived. Floyd later passed away at the hospital.

Witnesses watched the entire ordeal and some of them even begged the officer to take his knee off the man’s neck. Darnella Frazier was on the way to see her friends when the incident began to unfold in front of her. She recorded everything and posted the 10-minute video to Facebook.

“When I walked up, he was already on the ground,” Frazier said. “The cops, they was pinning him down by his neck and he was crying. They wasn’t trying to take him serious.”

She continued, “The police killed him bro, right in front of everybody. He was crying, telling them like, ‘I can’t breathe,’ and everything. They killed this man.”
