YBN Cordae stopped by Lil Wayne’s Young Money Radio to offer some details about his upcoming sophomore album, current quarantine life and, of course, pay tribute to the show’s host.
“I just can’t start this sh*t without telling you how much your music means to me as a human being and how much that sh*t inspired me, my ni**a,” the North Carolina-born upstart gushed. “I know everybody done told you that, but I gotta tell you that sh*t, man.”
“That’s why I do this sh*t,” Weezy said, accepting the compliment.
Cordae made waves with his 2019 debut LP, The Lost Boy. The project featured guest spots from Chance the Rapper, Anderson .Paak, Ty Dolla $ign, Pusha T, Arin Ray and Meek Mill and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards. Cordae also received a Grammy nod for Best Rap Song for his album cut, “Bad Idea.”
Now, Cordae says he’s readying his sophomore album, although he told Wayne that the project is still in its early stages.
“Probably [releasing it] later this year, I’ve just been working on it. Ain’t sh*t else to do, but work,” he told Wayne. “I’m so early in it, I don’t really know [about features or a title]. I’ve just been really, like, in the dungeon, just grinding it out, just recording. Easily, I’m like 50 songs in, so I’m trying to cut it down.”
At this point in the conversation, Wayne let Cordae know he’s down to appear on the record and that all he’d need to do to secure a collaboration is send over a track via text message.
“All you gotta do is give me the… All you gotta do is text me the song,” Weezy cut in. “I’ll murder it and send you the finger so you know it’s dead.”
“Say less. Say no more,” Cordae responded.
