On Friday (May 8), news surfaced that music executive Andre Harrell passed away. In honor of his late friend, Babyface shared a tribute song to social media.
“Update on Waiting to Exhale’s Mother’s Day Special. My Tribute to a dear friend @andreharrell,” Babyface wrote as his caption. In addition to the heartfelt song, the songwriter also revealed that he postponed his Mother’s Day live-streaming event that he announced earlier this week.
“Celebrate Mother’s Day with me this Sunday at 5 pm PST/ 8pm EST on Instagram Live as I play you the music and tell you the stories from the Waiting to Exhale Soundtrack. Maybe we’ll have a special guest or two… :),” Babyface wrote at the time.
Babyface wasn’t the only celebrity to share a sweet tribute following the unfortunate passing of Harrell. Russell Simmons, who worked with Harrell at Def Jam Records, spoke candidly about their friendship throughout the years.
“@andreharrell was the best man at my wedding and the go-to guy when things were less festive. In fact, when I was at my all time low he was there supportive and steady. Those real friendships can never be replaced. Let me offer you my prayer of comfort. We are the collective energy /consciousness or we are part of the ONE living breathing God. We are separated from this enlightened self when we are put into a shell. The yogis know, ‘He is not the body or the mind although she has a body and a mind,’” Simmons wrote on Instagram.
Mariah Carey also shared a similar sentiment about Harrell’s passing. “Why Andre? My heart is breaking and I can’t stop crying. He was an amazing friend and I will miss him forever,” the mother of two wrote.
