Last week, Brandy made a big return with her new single “Baby Mama,” which features Chance The Rapper and acts as a tribute to all of the independent women holding their own with their families — just in time for the upcoming Mother’s Day holiday. This week, fans get to check out a music video for the Hit-Boy-produced effort, which shows Brandy and her crew dancing heavy in a car garage. Chance make his appearance throughout the Derek Blanks-directed clip as well, keeping things grown with his ‘for ladies only’ subject matter:
“You not the only one that can take out trash, that can make the cash/
That can make her laugh, you not the only one that can make her brag/
That can make her drinks, that can make her scream, keep a vibrator in her make-up bag/”
In the video’s description, Brandy revealed how her daughter, Sy’rai Smith, was the main inspiration for the song’s creation:
“The inspiration for Baby Mama was of course my daughter and how she makes me a better person. I wanted to do a song about her and speak to all baby mama’s out there that may feel like they can’t make it or they can’t push through, you know, if you use your child as an inspiration you can do anything and I want to everybody to feel that.”
Brandy also revealed that the release of “Baby Mama” is in conjunction with Homes for the Holidays, which is a part of Warrick Dunn Charities. The organization’s goal is to assist single parents with home-buying assistance, including furnishings and supplies. Those interested in taking part can head to the charity’s official website for more information.
