Q-Tip celebrated his 50th birthday on Friday (April 10). However, it was the veteran rapper/ producer who gave out the presents. Taking to Instagram, Q thanked his fans for the birthday love and announced that he has three new albums in the works.
“Message from da Abstract. I pray u and ur loved ones are good n healthy,” a message in his video, which showed him jamming out on the guitar, read. “Thank u for all the bday love but i have something to share w u… 3 albums.”
He then went on to list the names of his forthcoming projects, AlGoRhythms, Riot Diaries and the long-awaited, The Last Zulu.
“Thank u god willing i will get with u soon,” his video concluded.
Q’s announcement coincided with the 30th anniversary of A Tribe Called Quest’s 1990 debut album, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm.
Captioning his Instagram post, Q added, “Stay safe n well. Thank u for all the bday wishes. Thank u for tribe anniversary wishes. But more importantly, stay vigilant n safe.”
Although Q has been teasing The Last Zulu for years, AlGoRhythms and Riot Diaries signal two new projects that the Tribe mastermind is currently working on. The three projects will also mark Q’s first solo full-length releases since his 2009 LP, Kamaal The Abstract.
Along with the AlGoRhythms, Riot Diaries and The Last Zulu, Q has also been collaborating with LL Cool J. Back in December, the two hip hop legends revealed they’d teamed up on some new material that will be released through Def Jam Records.
“I just started recording new music produced by my lil bro [Q-Tip],” LL tweeted at the time. “I’m putting this new music out on [Def Jam Recordings].”
