Vanessa Bryant is still grieving over the death of her late husband, Kobe Bryant.
On the four-year anniversary of Kobe’s last game in the NBA, Vanessa looked back on his retirement plans, which were cut short due to a fatal helicopter crash earlier this year.
“Mamba Day,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “My husband worked his ass off for 20 years. Gave it his all. All he wanted was to spend time with our girls and me to make up for lost time. He wanted to be there for every single milestone and special moment in our girls lives. He only got to enjoy 3 years and 9 months of retirement.”
She continued, “We had 2 more daughters, he won an Oscar, he opened Granity studios, he became a 5x best selling author and coached Gianna’s basketball team in that time. She worked hard and gave her all 7 days a week just like her daddy. I wish I could back to that morning, every day. I wish they had a normal local game on 1/26. Life truly isn’t fair. This is just senseless.”
Her post included a five-minute video that featured highlights from his last game. In Kobe’s final game, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Utah Jazz 101 to 96 and Kobe scored 60 points.
After the legendary win, Kobe went over to Vanessa and his daughters to hug and kiss them. At the end of the video, Kobe can be seen reflecting on his 20-year career as he walked out of the Staples Center, hand in hand with his wife.
“It’s a beautiful time to be able to have this moment with my family and have the finish that we’ve had,” Kobe said. “It’s amazing how fast time goes, man. Just extremely blessed and extremely appreciative, you know? A dream come true.”
