Ace Hood is back. This past Valentine’s Day, the Floridian rapper and newly-minted husband to Shelah Marie made his official return to wax with “Big Fish,” the first offering from his forthcoming fifth studio LP Mr. Hood. Now, he keeps the momentum building via a new single titled “Confident,” which — via press release — he explains as being about remaining true to oneself:
“The approach with this particular record is all about true confidence. It is about being rooted in who you are, standing in your truth without wavering. It’s silent but deeply rooted in something much higher than yourself.”
As expected, “Confident” lives up to its title thanks to thought-provoking, inspirational lyrics:
“With or without any necklace, no I don’t stand for them pledges/
Yes I be quick with them weapons, please do approach with discretion/
I’m in the gym going ape, I meditate every day/
Switch up the wave, I’m in the club with my chains, six percent fat on a frame/
Think it’s a game, f*** all that tryna’ maintain, we came to buy the whole thing/
Positive vibes, humble but ready inside…/”
The accompanying music video is even more conceptual. Directed by Alex Heider, the clip sees Ace Hood’s residence under invasion by masked assailants — thankfully, Hood is more than prepared with his weapons. In between other shots, viewers can also see Hood counting money by his pool while his presumed ex harasses him, matching the track’s accorded subject matter.
Last year, Ace Hood released the fifth installment of his well-received Body Bag mixtape series. Prior to that, he liberated his Trust The Process and Trust The Process II: Undefeated projects in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
Press play on “Confident” below, which is available on all major streaming platforms. Mr. Hood is on the way.
