Earlier this week on “The Breakfast Club,” Soulja Boy revealed he’d invested in The Soap Shop, going in on a South Haven, MS franchise with his manager, Miami Mike, last year. The business offers a variety of dish soap, body wash, all-purpose cleaner and laundry detergent and — amidst growing fears over Coronavirus — Soulja’s investment in the cleaning supply company is reportedly doing extremely well.
According to TMZ, the LLC has experienced a 30 percent increase in profits and has sold over 3,000 cleaning products within the last two months, as opposed to their usual 100 per month. The increase is reportedly a record-selling high for the brand. Furthermore, TMZ reports that Soulja’s Mississippi franchise is experiencing similar growth, with profits tripling.
“Once you get into the music industry, you branch out, you know what I’m saying?” he said while on the radio show. “Do different stuff, like, try different things. Try different business ventures. I got dish detergent. Everybody needs soap.”
The increase in sales is not only good for the “Crank That” rapper. The Soap Shop offers fundraising opportunities through their Bubbles For Cash program, which allows community groups to sell their cleaning products while taking home half of the commissions. This means that groups such as schools, churches, nonprofits and more can benefit from the increase in cleaning product sales.
Cleaning supply companies seem to be one of the few industries experiencing growth amidst the Coronavirus outbreak, with music festivals and corporate events being canceled or postponed and international travel being limited. SXSW has marked a major festival cancelation and resulted in a third of its workforce being laid off. Ticket holders were also not reimbursed for their purchase.
“SXSW has been rigorously reviewing our operations, and we are in the unimaginable position of reducing our workforce,” a statement from the festival’s organizers read. “We are planning for the future and this was a necessary, but heartbreaking, step.”
Similarly, on Tuesday (March 10), Coachella Music Festival postponed its two-weekend festival dates to this October.
