Tyler Perry is continuing to expand his brand at BET. Perry has announced that a “House of Payne” revival is coming to the network.
According to Deadline, production has already begun on the seventh season of the hit show. Original stars LaVan Davis, Cassi Davis Patton, Lance Gross, Demetria McKinney, China Anne McClain, Larramie “Doc” Shaw, Keshia Knight Pullam, and Allen Payne will all return.
“House of Payne” is expected to premiere summer 2020, eight years after the last episode aired. The show originally aired on TBS in 2006.
Perry is continuing to push the envelope with his films and shows. His Netflix film A Fall From Grace recently raked in 26 million viewers in the first week of its release. Perry announced the news on his social media accounts and thanked his fans for always supporting him.
“My heart is full. I’m grateful, I’m humbled by it,” Perry said in the video released Monday (Feb. 3). “I’ve always wanted my movies to open around the world, and that was the first time, so thank you Netflix. Thank you. I saw you all around the world watching, so thank you.”
Perry’s “The Oval” and “Sistas” just hit a series high for BET. “The Oval” raked in 1.8 million viewers for it’s mid-season finale. “Sistas” followed up with 1.6 million viewers.
Just last October, Perry officially opened Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. Big names such as Oprah Winfrey, Cecily Tyson, Taraji P. Henson, Jill Scott, and Whoopi Goldberg made appearances at the gala, which was held at Perry’s new 330-acre lot. Other Hollywood heavyweights such as Spike Lee, Ava DuVernay, Beyoncé, JAY-Z and Halle Berry were in attendance as well.
Perry wants to use his success story as a way to teach other black kids that they can do anything they put their mind to.
He said, “When I built my studio, [it was in the] poorest Black neighborhood in Atlanta so the kids can see that a black man did that and they can too.”
Congrats to Tyler Perry on all of his accomplishments.
