In an Instagram post shared on Wednesday (Jan. 8), Mac Miller’s family announced that a posthumous album by the late rapper titled Circles will be arriving next week.

The project was apparently a companion piece to Miller’s Grammy-nominated album, Swimming.

“At the time of his passing, Malcom was well into the process of recording his companion album to Swimming, entitled Circles,” the post begins. “Two different styles complementing each other, completing a circle—Swimming in Circles was the concept.”

“He had been working with Jon Brion, who after hearing some early versions of songs, cleared his calendar to help Malcom fine-tune them,” the note continues. “After his passing, Jon dedicated himself to finishing Circles based on his time and conversations with Malcom.”

Circles drops Jan. 17 and will mark Miller’s first full-length posthumous release. His sixth studio album, the record will follow Swimming, The Devine Feminine, GO:OD AM, Watching Movies with the Sound Off and Blue Slide Park.

“We simply know that it was important to Malcom for the world to hear it,” the post concludes. “Thank you to all of the fans who’ve supported him unconditionally through the years. We miss him. We are left to imagine where Malcom was going and to appreciate where he was. We hope you take the time to listen. The look on his face when everyone was listening said it all.”

Miller died in September 2018 after suffering an accidental drug overdose. Three men were arrested the following year during an investigation into his death. They were subsequently indicted on charges of conspiracy and distribution of drugs resulting in death for selling Miller counterfeit oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl.

The Instagram post also notes that follow-up information about Circles, Miller and the Mac Miller Fund can be found exclusively on an affiliated Instagram account.
