Mariah Carey might be having the best Christmas ever! Her hit holiday single “All I Want for Christmas Is You” just reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, 25 years after its initial release.
The holiday classic was originally released in 1994 on Carey’s Merry Christmas album. Last year, the song peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100 charts. According to Billboard, the song is the second holiday No. 1 ever on the Hot 100, joining The Chipmunks’ “The Chipmunk Song.” The song put Carey just one No. 1 shy of The Beatles’ record of 20. Other acts with the most Hot 100 No. 1’s are Rihanna with 14, Michael Jackson with 13, and Madonna and The Supremes with 12 each. Carey collects her record-extending 80th total week at No. 1 on the Hot 100. The top acts who’ve spent the most weeks after her are Rihanna (60), The Beatles (59), Boyz II Men (50) and Drake (49).
“We did it 😭❤️🐑🎄🦋” Carey wrote on Twitter in celebration of the historic news. The singer shared a photo of her tweet on her Instagram as well, using grateful hands as her caption: “🙏🙏🙏.” Some of her celebrity friends including Chance the Rapper and Kelly Ripa showed their support by commenting on her post. “Deserved every year for 25 years! Congrats GORGEOUS!,” Ripa wrote. Chance the Rapper commented with emojis “💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾.” Billboard commented on the photo, writing “Congrats! 💯❤️🎅🏼.”
Carey recently released an all new version of her “All I Want For Christmas Is You’” video, featuring previously-unreleased footage. “Kicking off the festivities with a brand new video cut for All I Want For Christmas Is You (Unreleased Video Footage) …hope you like it!!! #MerryChristmas25,” she tweeted. She also released her Merry Christmas (Deluxe Anniversary Edition) album on November 1.
Congratulations to Mariah Carey on her historic accomplishment.
