In a new interview with Daily Mail, Juice WRLD’s ex-girlfriend, Alexia Smith, detailed the late rapper’s drug abuse and struggles with depression. She claimed Juice would take up to three Percocet pills daily and mix the opioid pain killer with codeine.
Smith also asserted that Juice’s heavy drug use began with team members and record labels supplying him with drugs.
“Someone from a label gave him morphine and cocaine,” Smith remembered from a Los Angeles trip she took to visit him. “He didn’t do the coke but the point was, in the beginning, labels were fighting over him so bad they would have given him anything.”
Smith also revealed the “Lucid Dreams” rapper’s struggle with mental health, which he detailed frequently on a fake Instagram account.
“Even when he had every reason to be happy, he still wasn’t and obviously that’s mental illness,” she said. “If you have family, girlfriend, money, you have the job that you want but you’re still unhappy at that point, your brain isn’t working properly and you need professional help.”
Juice posted several messages to the Instagram account about battling depression.
“He would tell me, ‘I need help, I need help. I’m telling people I need help and nobody believes me,’” Smith continued.
The 21-year-old also revealed that she had urged Juice toward sobriety after quitting her own codeine addiction.
“Me and his mom were the only ones telling him to stop because everyone else was doing drugs too,” Smith told the outlet. “People just gave him things all the time.”
Smith ultimately blames Juice’s mental health struggles and his close circle for supporting his drug addiction.
“Even if he did swallow the pills to hide it from the Feds, why wouldn’t someone tell him to flush them? Why wouldn’t someone else take some? Why was he the one taking all of them?” she said. “I don’t know what the f**k happened in the past year, but obviously something changed, with the people.”
Juice suffered a seizure at the Chicago Midway Airport early Sunday morning (Dec. 8) and passed away shorty after being rushed to a local hospital. The cause of his death has not yet been confirmed. As hip hop mourns the 21-year-old, many rappers and friends have shared their condolences and condemned drug use.
