A few days ago, a member of DMX’s team announced that the rapper was entering rehab. Despite the opinion of some naysayers, X didn’t check himself in due to a relapse.

According to TMZ, one of X’s children is very sick with frequent hospital visits. The rapper was afraid that the stress of the situation would tempt him to start using drugs again. As a result, X decided to be proactive and check himself into rehab. Currently, X is on probation and gets tested randomly for drugs and alcohol. If he does fail a test, X has the possibility of being put behind bars.

A member of X’s team shared the news on his Instagram page. “In his ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first, DMX has checked himself into a rehab facility. He apologizes for his canceled shows and thanks to his fans for their continued support,” they wrote.

Throughout his career, DMX has shared how important family is to him. Earlier this month, after running into Nikki Cutchens and her family, he paid for the teenage daughter’s back to school shopping.

During a recent conversation with GQ, DMX confirmed that he signed to Def Jam. “Yeah, it’s good to be back home. I wanted to be a part of Def Jam since 1985, when the movie Krush Groove came out,” he said. “And I found out that Run’s last name was Simmons, and Russell’s last name was Simmons. And Russell was running Def Jam. I saw the movie Krush Groove, and I was like, ‘Yo.’ And at that point, I was so naive then. I was like, ‘Yo. If I could just meet them.’ And like, ‘Yo, my last name is Simmons too.’ And that’s it.”
