Four months ago, Lil Nas X revealed his sexuality to fans and it’s been a journey ever since.
On Monday (Sept. 30), CBS shared a clip of an upcoming interview between Lil Nas and Gayle King. The “Old Town Road” rapper stated that he battled with being gay during his teenage years.
“I knew, especially around my teenage years,” Lil Nas X said to King. “I would just pray and pray and pray that it was like a phase. I mean because me being in this position it’s easy for me. But like, some little boy 10 miles from here, it’s not gon’ be good for him.”
This isn’t the first time that Lil Nas has spoke on the reality of unveiling his truth. While talking with LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Kevin Hart and more on HBO’s The Shop: Uninterrupted, Lil Nas X stated that his truth isn’t for media attention.
“Homosexuality, gay people,” Lil Nas began. “Come on, now. If you really from the hood, you know. For me, the cool dude with the song on the top of everything to say this any other time, I’m doing this for attention in my eyes. But if you’re doing this while you’re at the top, you know it’s for real. It’s showing it doesn’t really matter I guess.”
Although his career has been at an all-time high, Lil Nas X announced that he is ready to take some time off. Towards the end of his statement, the “Panini” artist reassured his fans that he has an endless amount of love for them.
“It’s been a wild last 7 months and im ready to take a little time off,” he revealed to fans on Twitter. “Sorry to everyone attending twitchcon or the sandbox music festival, i will not be there. i love u guys and will make it up to you some way.”
