As if Drake’s Netflix-produced series, “Top Boy,” isn’t enough to look forward to this Friday (Sept. 13), the Toronto rapper has something else up his sleeve. Earlier today (Sept. 10), Drake’s OVO Sound announced that a soundtrack will be released alongside the show.
“TOP BOY( a selection of music inspired by the series ) Available everywhere Friday Sept 13th @topboynetflix,” the tweet reads.
Last week, during the premiere event in London, Drake delivered a touching speech surrounding the relentless work of the entire cast. Champagne Papi revealed that he is excited to be a part of a team that is passionate about their work.
“I think September 13th is a real U.K. heritage moment that you should all be very proud of. You all made it happen, I just really wanted it to happen. To the cast, new and old, the crew, the writers, the production team — everybody that pulled this all together. I really do appreciate it,” he said.
Like several other fans, Drake caught the series on YouTube and was fascinated by the promising storyline. “That human element drew me in,” Drake told The Hollywood Reporter. “I started just looking them up. Like, who are these people? Are these actors I should know? Are they just famous over there? I remember I hit Future, and I was just like, ‘This show is incredible.’”
Although the details are kept to a minimum, it’s unclear whether or not Drake will have new music featured on the project. If not, fans shouldn’t worry too much. For the past couple of months, Drizzy has been in album mode. Last month, the 32-year-old rapper released Care Package, which features some of the Toronto rapper’s popular singles throughout the years. Only after a few days of the LP’s release, it became Drake’s ninth No. 1 album.
