Despite being moved to back to general population, R. Kelly is feeling at ease.

According to a new report from TMZ, the 52-year-old singer is amongst his hometown inmates. The outlet reports that Kelly doesn’t anticipate any problems because he’s considered a “legend.” Supposedly, Kelly’s fellow prisoners look up to him and wouldn’t harm him despite his federal charges for child pornography and obstruction of justice. Understandably, if the entertainer was placed in general population in New York or Minnesota, Kelly wouldn’t be as happy.

Yesterday (Sept. 4), we reported that Kelly received an April trial date for his ongoing federal charges. The judge anticipates that the trial could last up to three weeks. Although Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, argued that it’s not enough time to prepare for the trial, the decision has been set in stone. Moving forward, Kelly’s next arraignment is slated for Sept. 18.

Although there were previous reports that Kelly was held in solitary confinement, The Chicago Tribute reported that the “Ignition” singer has had a cellmate for quite some time. In addition to that, Kelly’s attorney, Greenberg, explained that his client was having a tough time in solitary.

“He’s also a spiritual guy, has a Bible with him in his cell, but he can’t read it. It’s basically there for comfort,” Greenberg added. “Now he’s been placed in the MCC’s ‘SHU’ — a cell in solitary confinement away from the jail population and is constantly being moved from cell to cell. He has only the guards to talk to.”

With his pending trial approaching, Kelly is looking to change a few people on his defense team in the near future. Jocelyn Savage and Azriel Clary, Kelly’s alleged girlfriends, are looking into projects that will help with the singer’s financial woes.
