Jamie Foxx has major things in the works.

According to Shadow and Act, the 51-year-old actor will star in Disney Pixar’s upcoming first black-lead movie, Soul. The film is centered around a middle school band teacher who plays jazz music on the side. Although the teacher has a difficult time catching his break, he continues to persist after his dream despite all obstacles. In addition to Foxx, Disney also tapped on Tina Fey, Questlove, Phylicia Rashad and Daveed Diggs.

It’s safe to say that Disney is currently on a roll. Over the weekend, director Ryan Coogler announced the release date for Black Panther’s follow-up while at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif. The film is slated to release on May 6, 2020. While speaking on the success of the film, Coogler explained that he is humbled to be a part of the groundbreaking project.

“Never in a million years did we imagine that you all would come out this strong,” Coogler said. “It still humbles me to think that people care enough to spend their money and time watching our film. But to see people of all backgrounds wearing clothing that celebrates their heritage, taking pictures next to our posters with their friends and family, and sometimes dancing in the lobbies of theaters often moved me and my wife to tears.”

But, that’s not all for Disney’s accolades regarding films this year. Last month, The Lion King remake became the No. 1 movie in the world only days after its release. The Jon Favreau-directed film starred Donald Glover, Beyoncé, Chance The Rapper and more. In addition to that, Disney’s remake of Aladdin officially holds the title of Will Smith’s highest-grossing film.

Soul is slated to hit theaters on June 19, 2020. Who is excited to see Jamie Foxx star in the upcoming film next year?
