Years later, Taylor Swift speaks on the drama that occurred between herself, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West.
During Swift’s September 2019 Vogue cover feature, the songstress spoke on her past feud with the superstar couple. The 29-year-old singer explains that she wasn’t fond of Kim’s attempt to “expose” her on social media, which occurred three years ago.
“A mass public shaming, with millions of people saying you are quote-unquote canceled, is a very isolating experience,” Swift said. “I don’t think there are that many people who can actually understand what it’s like to have millions of people hate you very loudly. When you say someone is canceled, it’s not a TV show. It’s a human being. You’re sending mass amounts of messaging to this person to either shut up, disappear, or it could also be perceived as kill yourself.”
Elsewhere during her conversation with the fashion publication, Swift reasons that the drama caused her to fight back with her music. Swift realized that her life needed restructuring after the feud began to take a toll on her mental health.
“I realized I needed to restructure my life because it felt completely out of control,” Swift said. “I knew immediately I needed to make music about it because I knew it was the only way I could survive it. It was the only way I could preserve my mental health and also tell the story of what it’s like to go through something so humiliating.”
As you may recall, West and Swift have had brewing tensions for quite some time now. Back in 2009, West stated during the MTV Video Music Awards that Swift didn’t deserve the Best Female Video award.
In 2016, ‘Ye dropped his song “Famous” to which he mentions having relations with Swift. Shortly after that, Swift said at the Grammys that people will try to take credit for one’s success, possibly hinting at West’s lyrics.
In an effort to come to her husband’s defense, the KUWTK star shared a clip of the Life of Pablo spitter on the phone with Swift. During their conversation, Swift approves of the Chicago rapper’s lyrics. Watch the video of Taylor Swift’s phone call with Kanye West below.
