On the heels of his upcoming docuseries release “Free Meek,” Meek Mill has something else up his sleeve. PUMA announced that they are releasing a new colorway of Clyde Court, “#REFORM,” which is inspired by the Philly native’s efforts with criminal justice reform.
On the red-colored sneaker, there is a quote that reads: “WE HAD TO BE SEEN BECAUSE WE COULDN’T BE HEARD.” According to PUMA, the red color signifies the “blood and sacrifice of those who have courageously given so much fighting oppression and injustices over the last 60-plus years.” The Clyde Court “#REFORM” is available on PUMA’s site and retails for $120.
Admirably, all of the proceeds made from the sneakers will benefit Meek and JAY-Z’s REFORM Alliance Foundation. The foundation aims to reduce the number of people who face unfair treatment from the criminal justice system.
“Our goal is to dramatically reduce the number of people who are needlessly trapped in the system,” the site reads. “We will do this by changing the laws, policies, and practices that perpetuate injustice. Key to our strategy is changing hearts and minds to support real change. We are building an alliance of influential leaders in business, government, entertainment, sports, and culture to use our shared resources, energy, and platforms for massive impact. Our initial focus will be disabling the revolving door of probation and parole.”
Last month, Meek appeared in court to revisit the conversation of having his 2008 gun and drug conviction overturned. Thankfully, Meek was granted a new trial and is also off of probation.
“I’d like to thank the Pennsylvania Superior Court judges for their wisdom and transparency in reviewing my case, unanimously overturning my conviction and granting me a new trial,” Meek says in a statement. “The past 11 years have been mentally and emotionally challenging, but I’m ecstatic that justice prevailed. This positive outcome wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my family, my attorneys, Jay-Z, Desiree Perez, Michael Rubin, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and my supporters who have stood with me through the ups and downs.”
