Big Sean is a man of many talents. Next year, the Detroit rapper will make his acting debut on a new BET Series, “Twenties.”
While speaking with Variety, the show’s creator, Lena Waithe, spoke on selecting Sean for the role. Waithe provided backstory as to how she became fond of the “Single Again” rapper. Waithe recalled Sean mentioning her at one of his concerts. Following the shoutout, the two decided to linkup at Sean’s house. Deeper into her conversation with the media outlet, Waite revealed that she and Sean hit it off.
“We really connected,” Waithe recalled while speaking on her meeting with Big Sean. “There was a character, Tristan, we had written that made me think of him. I didn’t even make him read for it, I knew he’d be right. He’s in about three episodes and he’s phenomenal. He’s so natural. He’s so good. He’s easy on the eyes, as we all know. The ladies are going to get a kick out of watching him on screen.”
It appears as if the two creators have the same mutual respect for each other. “I love Lena because of her spirit and determination to win,” Big Sean revealed. “She has an unstoppable hunger and in this industry, that’s what you need. It’s one of the qualities I see in myself. … She’s amazing for giving me my first chance to act and not playing myself, but actually playing a character. It’s something I take seriously.”
More recently, Sean dropped his latest visual “Single Again,” which features superstar couple Ryan Destiny and Keith Powers. While speaking on the video, Sean revealed that the video has a ton of hidden messages.
“This is also a video of love and a beautiful couple who has to decide is it better to be separate or understand each other’s difference be stronger from it. Played by @RyanDestiny and @KeithTPowers,” he wrote.
Congrats to Big Sean on securing a role on the upcoming BET Series, “Twenties.”
